An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit the southern part of East Java province on Monday afternoon. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 11.54 p.m. was in the sea 247 km southwest of Blitar town in East Java or 743 km southeast of Jakarta at a depth of 10 km, ANTARA quoted the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency as saying. The quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami, it said.
