JEDDAH — Newly-formed Rock N Roll team with Ruel Santoc helming 631 shocked Cool Guys with a 20-0 submission when captain Jay Bengco, Richard Junio, Jayson Castillo, Ruben Grino, Aileen Miralbuna and Obie Ycasas rallied cohesively behind their lead-scorer and compelled the Jun de Dios-skippered opponent to a 3,526-3,453 decision on the opening day of the FEDBG Friday Morning Bowling League 16th meet at the Bowling City here recently.

Without notable resistance, Santoc led Rock N Roll with 212 to initially edge rival at 1,117-1,091. When Cool Guys' Benj Espinosa began charging in the next salvo, Bengco took the rudder and guided RNR to escape at 1,185-1,178. Sensing a bleak start, de Dios tried a 244 booster only to be humbled by the total of 875 from Santoc, Junio, Grino and Miralbuna for a wider gap of 1,224-1,184. Rock N Roll emptied Cool Guys on scratch aggregate of 3,103-2,835 with Santoc leading with 583, followed by Bengco 542, Junio 525, Grino 517, Ycasas 472 and Miralbuna 464. Cool Guys was helped by de Dios (589) on handicapped totals, followed by Serge Rivera (586), Salic Mudag (580), Espinosa (574), Mark Punzalan (572) and George Mangaliman (552).

Extreme 1:11, another freshly created team, displayed power when the Dariel Loquias-captained squad upset titlist Micah's Pride in a classic high-scoring match that submitted 11-9 on final tallies of 3,627-3,618 making the former the first team of the week of this season. Andy Yumena primarily hauled for Extreme with 678 built from scratch of 630 with hi-game of 245. Main Micah's blocker was Oca Bernabe with 652 garnished with 272. Team captain Rolly Vistal and Ester Santoc superbly supported Bernabe with 635 and 696 for Micah's, but with Loquias and Edu Toledo backing up Yumena with 619 and 603, Extreme sustained its narrow edge as Sol Cuenca, Romy Bunagan and Lanie Zamora managed to capitalize their handicap at 575, 571 and 581. Melvin Lising, Jack Jarin and Renato Gonzales tried to shield Micah's with their average output of 571, 573 and 591 but to no avail.

Bowlers of the week winners were Mohammed Nojoom, who top-scored BCT with 714, and Sally Sanosa, who totaled 600, for Shawly Bowlers. Nojoom led BCT board with games of 252, 192 and 270, while Sanosa collected her series from 194, 205 and 201. Captained by Emil Payongayong, BCT routed Shawly Bowlers at 16-4 (3,525-3,437) with Rommel Cagampang planking Nojoom with 590. Edison Arena and Cloyd Opena defended the Arnel Bautista-skippered Shawly with 674 and 638. Other results: Defending champion Ekis defeated Hal Falcons 16-4 (3,540-3,473); Lance & 3rdy smashed Fine Boys 20-0 (3,320-3,192).

Initial standings: Rock N Roll 33 points, Ekis-7 32, Extreme 1:11 30, BCT 29, Micah's Pride 28, Lance & 3rdy 25, Hal Falcons 13, Shawly Bowlers 12, Cool Guys 6, Fine Boys 2.
