JEDDAH — The Civil Defense mobilized 14 fire-fighting brigades, rescuers, water tanks and various equipment to put out the fire that broke out on Saturday in a chemical factory in the Industrial City of Jeddah. The factory, which has an area of 500 sq. meters, produces paints. Acting spokesman of the Makkah Province's Civil Defense Lt. Col. Waleed Abu Shanab, said the fire was contained by using foams before it spread to other nearby areas. He said only two tanks with a capacity of 100 tons each were burned down. The spokesman said the fire might have been caused by an electric charge which was produced while the workers were loading a plastic tank, which has a capacity of 1,000 liters. He said a Civil Defense staff member sustained burns on the face and was treated in a hospital.
