JEDDAH — Civil Defense specialists are investigating a huge fire that erupted in workshops in Al-Iskan Street, south Jeddah. The fire erupted Wednesday morning and covered a 1,200 sq. meter area. The Civil Defense mobilized 11 firefighting teams in addition to rescue teams, equipment and water tankers. The workshops were built with cement blocks and the ceilings were made of steel sheets. The workshops contained large amounts of wood, furniture and flammable materials. The wind and the contents of the workshops fed the fire. Special foam was used to control the fire and stop it from spreading further. The Civil Defense was successful in isolating the fire and prevented it from spreading to other shops. No injuries were reported and electricity was disconnected from a large number of nearby shops.
