JAZAN — An attempt to smuggle qat by sea has been foiled by border guards in Jazan. Jazan Border Guard spokesman Col. Abdullah Bin Mahfouz said a target was monitored on radar at the Border Guard station on Farasan Islands. The Border Guard dispatched a boat to intercept the target, which tried to escape. The guards fired warning shots but the vessel did not stop and sped away. The guards had no option but to fire at the target and force it to stop. Four Arab nationals were on board the vessel along with a quantity of qat. They were detained and escorted to shore for further investigations.
