Two smugglers were killed and another injured in an exchange of fire between them and Border Guard patrol near Umm Al-Rak Center in Jazan region, Sunday. Col. Abdullah Bin Mahfouz, spokesman of the Border Guard in Jazan region, said a maritime reconnaissance patrol spotted the boat and ordered it to stop. “Disobeying the orders, the boat continued to sail forcing the Border Guard to fire warning shots at it. Those aboard the boat started firing indiscriminately at the patrol party. The boat was given a chase and was ultimately captured,” he said. By that time the smugglers had dumped the items into the sea, he said. Three smugglers were injured in the shooting. Two of them died later, the spokesman said. There were no casualties on the other side, he said. An investigation has begun, the spokesman said.
