A maritime reconnaissance patrol of the Border Guard in Jizan Region have managed to capture a smuggling boat in the regional waters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia near Umm Al-Rak Center in Jizan Region after fire exchange between the patrol and smugglers, killing two smugglers and injuring one, it was reported here today. Col. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Mahfouz, Spokesman of the Border Guard in Jizan Region, said "having monitored the boat inside the regional waters yesterday, the patrol asked the boat to stop sailing but it did not obey the orders, triggering the patrol to fire warning shots. The smugglers on board the boat then started to fire live ammunition at the patrol. In turn, the reconnaissance patrol fired at the boat, chased it and finally seized it". The spokesman added that the battle resulted in the injury of the three smugglers, with two of them died later of their wounds. Their boat also inflicted sporadic shots. On the other hand, the patrol's crew was safe. The spokesman said an investigation was launched into the incident, particularly the type and quantity of smuggled items thrown in the sea by the smugglers.
