JEDDAH — Pakistan International School Jeddah - English Section (PISJ-ES) held its Annual Sports Day for two days for junior boys and girls from the nursery through Grade Level 4 here recently. The boys and girls competed for honors in different houses — Blue, Red, Green and Yellow. Each house participated in the events under a specific theme. Blue House represented “Dynamic Sharks”, Red House “Glorious Gladiators”, Green House “Soldiers” and Yellow House “Roaring Jaguars”. Yellow House dominated on the first day of the event for nursery to Grade I, amassing 357 points, followed by Blue House (190), Red House (180) and Green House (155). On the second day, Red House topped with 288 points in the Grade 2 to Gade 4 section. Yellow House stood second with 261, Green House third (243) and Blue House fourth (208). The program started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an which was followed by a flag-hoisting ceremony. The national anthems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were then sung. Sehar Kamran, PISJ-ES Principal, and Pakistan Senator, said: “At PISJ-ES we give equal importance to curricular and extra-curricular activities. This is a manifestation of our resolve to groom these little ones and provide equal opportunities to all.” Kamran also said that sports is one of the most important facets of education. Beyond promoting health, it teaches teamwork — how to get along with others and how to work together to achieve a common goal. The Sports Day is one of the most awaited events at PISJ-ES. It is a combined effort of teachers, supporting staff and school administration. The tiny tots energetically gave a beautiful performance of welcome display, which won the hearts of the crowd and set the tone for the events. Competitions were held in 50m and 100m flat race, tying the knot on the hoop race, tele match collecting the bears, T-match passing the ball race, relay race straight, relay race of four corners for the Y2-Y4 students and YN-Y1 races which included find the ball race, find the Teddy Bear race, frog race, tying the lace, tele match collecting fruits and vegetables and ball relay. The PT display and the gymnastics were the most admired displays of the Sports Day. The students were awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals for the first, second and third positions, respectively. The gymnastics and PT display students were also awarded medals. — SG
