The Pakistan International School in Jeddah - English Section held its Annual Sports Day for junior boys and girls, from the nursery level through Grade 3, on Feb. 23. The Green House emerged victorious with 274 points while the Blue House placed second with 270 points, the Yellow House third with 225 points, and the Red House fourth with 223 points. The program started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an followed by a Nasheed and a flag-hoisting ceremony. The national anthems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia were then sung. Principal Sehar Kamran said, “At PISJ-ES we give equal importance to curricular and extracurricular activities, which is the main reason we have organized a separate Sports Day for our young daffodils and falcons. This is a manifestation of our resolve to groom these little ones and provide equal opportunities to all.” Kamran also said that sports is one of the most important facets of education; beyond promoting health, it teaches teamwork —how to get along with others and how to work together to achieve a common goal. The children energetically took part in a welcome parade, representing the kingdom of a king and queen, with fairies. The four houses' colors added glamor and attraction to the day. The main sports event included different races: flat race, passing through the hoop, finding the ball, finding the teddy bear, frog race, ball relay, telematch, tying the knot on the hoop and tug of war. The students' performance on the tracks showed their motivation and excitement at being part of the annual event. The spectators showed their support for the players with their hearty rounds of applause during and after each game. The audience most admired the gymnastic segment. To wrap up the Sports Day, prizes were given to the first, second and third place winners who received gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. __
