The Blue House was hot once again when the boys took to the tracks at the annual Sports Day at the Pakistan International School (English Section) Jeddah recently. Following in the footsteps of the Blue House girls, who had a day earlier finished first, the boys in Blue proved their mettle by doing exactly the same - finishing on top. They were followed by Red, Yellow and Green Houses respectively. The action kicked off with the spoon and lemon races where Rafey Shehzad (Y3-1) of Blue House, Hammad Khalid (Y3-2) of Red House, Owais Ahmed (Y3-2) of Green House, Ali Haider (Y4-5) of Blue House, Ali Ahmed (Y5-2) of Blue House and Sayed Mustafa Q. (Y6-4) of Blue House clinched their respective races. In tying the lace races Umer (Y3-6) of Green House, Ali Anwer (Y3-1) of Green House, Wasim Anas (Y4-6) of Red House, Anas Mahmood (Y4-3) of Red House, Saad Umer (Y5-3) of Yellow House, Mohammad Imran (Y5-3) of Yellow House, Zawwar (Y6-1) of Blue House and M. Talha (Y6-2) of Blue House finished first. The one-legged races saw a few close encounters and were eventually won by Hassan Mohammad (Y3-3) of Green House, Mohammad Mobin (Y3-6) of Blue House, Abdul Rehman Khan (Y4-6) of Blue House, Zaid Hassan (Y5-2) of Red House and Umair Imran Abbassi (Y6-3) of Blue House. Winners of side-by-side races were Mohammad Abdu Karim (Y3-6) of Green House, Talal Ashar Zubairi (Y3-1) of Green House, Mohammad Bilal (Y4-5) of Red House, Zaryab Mahmood (Y5-3) of Red House and Hamza Amjad Ali (Y6-3) of Yellow House. Students also took part in 100m, relay, three-legged and sack races. A Y3-5 boy Mohammad Zulqarnain was the cynosure of all eyes on the day. The “Little Wonder”, as one guest put it because of the boy's small stature, took part in two races and won both, beating boys twice his size. The guests also enjoyed seeing fathers take on the male staff of the school first on the track and then in the tug-of-war event. Needless to say, the school staff won both the events. At the end of the events chief guest Akmal Saeed, Link Officer of the School, distributed the prizes among the winners before handing over the 2009-2010 trophy to the Blue House. The program earlier started with recitation from the Holy Qur'an by Ahmed Yaseen (Y8 student). Flag hoisting ceremony was then followed by the national anthems of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. The houses also put on a march-past show before the real action kicked off. The school's principal, Sehar Kamran, welcomed the guests and urged the students to do their best, reminding them of the school's motto - strong motivation, dedication and sincerity towards a cause. “Winners don't wait for chances, they take them,” she told the students. The Blue House did exactly that putting all their energies and skills to go top.
