RIYADH – Indian Combined XI beat Doctors XI to win the festival cricket tournament which was organized Riyadh Cricket League here recently. Six teams — Pakistan Embassy XI, Indian Combined XI, Doctors XI, RCL Managers XI, Pakistan Investors Forum XI and PISES Teachers XI — vied for honors in this tournament which was sponsored by Power Zone, Sketchers, Al-Rabie Foods, Castrol and Al-Yasra Fashions. Khayyam Akbar, DHM, Pakistan Embassy, and Manohar Ram, DCM, Indian Embassy, graced the occasion as chief guests. Ahmed Rashoud, Vice President, Schneider Electric; Abid Shaikh from Sketchers, Nadeem Tareen from DPS, Asghar Qureshi, Tariq Soomro, Bashir Chaudry, Khalid Chaudry, Shamshad Siddiqui from PIF, Qadeer Mirza, ex-President and VP of RCA; and Nasir Khan, Mairaj M. Khan, Principal, DPS; Anwarul Haque and Abdullah Shariff were among the distinguished guests. The tournament was played on a 6-over format. The final standings of the teams were: 1. Indian Combined XI, 2. Doctors XI, 3. RCL Manager's XI, 4. PISES Teachers XI, 5. Pakistan Embassy XI, 6. Pakistan Investors Forum XI. Jawaid Munawar, Senior Vice President, RCL, conducted the prize distribution. Man-of-the-Match final award was given to Abdul Wasif, who scored 34 runs for the Indian Combined XI. Abdullah of PIF was adjudged the Man-of-the-Series for scoring 89 runs. A special award was given to Aslam of RCL Managers XI for recording a hat trick. Indian Combined XI's Danish, Dr Tanveer of Doctors XI and Mohammed Ahsraf of RCL Managers XI recieved the trophies for the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively. Akbar and Ram applauded the efforts of RCL for organizing such an event for the South Asian community where about 500 cricket fans, including families and children, attended and enjoyed the festivities at RCL Complex. RCL's Senior Advisor Razaur Rahman briefed the gathering on RCL activities, RCL President Mamoor Elahi thanked the sponsors for supporting the league and thanked the guests and participating teams for making this event successful. Ahmed Al-Rashoud, VP, Schneider Electric, also confirmed his company's support to RCL in future. Jawad Khalifa, RCL Patron, thanked the executive committee, distinguished guests and sponsors for supporting RCL to promote cricket in the Kingdom.
