JEDDAH – The students of Pakistan International School Jeddah – English Section, (PISJ-ES) held Elections for the Members of General and Executive Body on Sunday, October 14 where they voted for eligible candidates. Prior to the Executive Body and General Body Elections, the class prefects and the Student Council members were elected on Monday, October 9 after presenting their motives in the Open House Charter. A tough competition was seen among the students during the election campaign. The students went throughout the school to different classes seeking votes. Each area in the school was embellished and adorned with fantabulous, multi-hued posters and banners to catch the voters attention. Each candidate tried to assure the students what role they will play to work for the betterment and brilliant future of the school, and how they would voice the students' concerns to their utmost ability being an effective bridge between the school administration and the students. The Principal, Sehar Kamran, is the pioneer of the Student Council in PISJ–ES. This initiative has been taken to groom the future architects of Pakistan by instilling confidence in the students to face challenges in life. “We wish to give our students rock solid foundation and inculcate in them sublimity of thoughts. Introduction to the Student Council in PISJ-ES is a part of our Student Leadership Development Program. It is the process of involving students in meaningful ways both in and beyond the classroom, with an objective to provide them with a podium where they can exercise and exhibit their qualities and demonstrate their talents and interests in an organized manner,” said Kamran. The voting process took place with complete transparency. The Election Cell established reticent balloting where the students were given the ballot papers and they voted for the candidates who successfully managed to persuade them with their motives. The votes were counted in the presence of homeroom and co-teachers, student and election representatives for further verification, after which the results were compiled. Congratulating the winning candidates, Kamran said: “Emerging as a winner or losing the competition is not imperative but the real essence lies in the fact that you are a part of the team where you have got an opportunity to represent the school and other fellow students through your contributions. It is a platform where you can easily demonstrate your talents and capabilities.” The oath taking ceremony for the General Body and Executive members will take place on November 11. — SG
