Cool Guys Team of the Week
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 26 - 08 - 2016

JEDDAH — Last season's third ranker Cool Guys showed no fear to the mighty opponent posting a one-sided decision that made this Jun de Dios-captained squad the first Team of the Week with Zaldy Bacero, Mariz Resano and Lourdes Punzalan sharing the limelight by garnering the Bowlers of the Week honors on the opening day of the FEDBG Friday Morning Bowling League 18th conference at the Bowling City here.
Matched against newcomer Dabarkadz team of Leo Edejer, titlist and perfect-game achiever Randy Mata called the shots for Cool Guys with him on the breaker, Nezar on anchor post, and entrusting the inside to Dylan Ilagan, Rene Punzalan, Michelle Mata and Lourdes Punzalan. With Dabarkadz advantaged by 3 pins in handicap (115-112), both teams evenly traded marks on the outset until well coordinated team work extricated Cool Guys on halfway to marginally leave the earlier by more than 100 pins at 1,341-1,212 on an all 200-mark probing. Feeling sneered at, Edejer tried igniting teammates with 238 only to be upset when Nezar and R. Punzalan incessantly boosted Cool Guys for another wide 1,270-1,146 follow-up. Wearisome of an empty start, Edejer initiated another booster of 240 which Ed Sardiña profoundly reciprocated with 230 that enthused Gerry Tano, Bing Amolo, Romy Bunagan and Tess Grandia to efficiently corroborate for the rest of their more competitive 1271 efforts. But this magnified rally flashed no effect on Cool Guys as it binged more prolifically to totally chill off Dabarkadz at 3,963-3,629 including the 1,352-1,271 endgames.
Cool Guys dominated this opening days on superb games of Nezar 676 (238, 223, 215), R. Punzalan 673 (216, 250, 207), M. Mata 664 (206, 224, 234), Ilagan 660 (237, 196, 227), R. Mata 624 (203, 193, 228). Lou Punzalan contributed 666 from games of 241, 184 and 241 for handicapped series of 666 that tied Resano for Lady Bowler of the Week accolade. Resano lifted FB Rhinos to win against Pin Down 14-8 (3,712-3,451) with her games of 249, 227 and 190. Edejer top scored Dabarkardz with 667 followed by Bunagan 636, Grandia 606, Sardiña 584, Tano 577 and Amolo 559.
Bacero gained his first Bowler of the Week title on his efforts of augmenting Ekis-9 with 709 which this top-averaged bowler scratched from 243, 218 and 248 against Micah's Pride to whom they succumbed on final results of 18-4 on hi-scoring battles of 3,764-3,718. Ekis actually eclipsed Micah on the opener at 1,339-1,229. But with Melvin Lising and Paolo Allego helping to regroup teammates, Micah's Pride retaliated at 1,323-1,195 to turn the table at 2,554-2,534 into third game. Hoping to be planked by teammates, Bacero continued with his supreme gunning only to be despaired by the gained momentum of Micah's Pride which 1,212-1,184 final set was led by Igna Salgado at 233. Micah's winning total was shared by Lising 665, Allego 648, Nethneth Cerbito 640, Mart Lising 625, Salgado 608 and Carling Constantino 578. Faisal Relativo was right behind Bacero in defending Ekis with 643, Rey Beltran, who initially scored 266, totaled 612, Alma Bacero 603, Nato Gonzales 577 and team chief Ernie Geslani 574.
Other results: RL Titans defeated Kabalen Strikers (16-6), Pin Busters humbled ARCI-5 (18-4), Sagmit Dental Clinic outplayed Superbowl Dozer (21-1) and defending champion BCT-JBS Pip's Pro Shop blanked Jeddah Bowlers.
