Published in The Saudi Gazette on 09 - 04 - 2016

JEDDAH — Ekis-8 compiled a handicapped series of 3,874 to claim its first Team of the Week accolade on the prime scoring of Zaldy Bacero, who emerged the Male Bowler of the Week on his scratch total of 715 lifting his team to a 20-2 settlement against Trojans. Sharing the limelight with Ekis and Bacero was Marie Gumpal who with a handicapped total of 652 was crowned as the Lady Bowler of the Week at end of the 14th week of the FEDBG Friday Morning Bowling League 17th meet at the Bowling City here.
With Bacero's superlative scoring collected from 221, 225 and 269 plus 600 and up marks from Jimmy Mandingiado, Rey Beltran, Malou Gime, Faisal Relativo and TCM Ernie Geslani, Ekis-8 swiped the scratch at 3,571-3,085. The entire match should have been a clean runaway as Mandingiado and Beltran planked Bacero with 684 and 647, but Trojans on 244, 239 and 205 pushes from Hairul, Ruel Perez and Ed Sardenia got sure of two points when they edged Ekis at 1,276-1,254 in the opener. Knowing that the 45 (146-101) disadvantage on handicap was a losing factor, Ekis bettered its next sets, disappointing Trojans at 1,298-1197 and 1,302-1,128 to seal the battle at 3,874-3,523 including the 614, 611 and 603 from Gime, Relativo and Geslani. TC Sally Sanosa, Steve Fragata and Cloyd Opena provided essential help for Trojans to evade an empty basket.
A well-fought match and hardly earned points were in store between Liquidators-3 and Micah's Pride with the former eclipsing game one and handicap set of end game while the latter taking game two and the last scratch game. Such situation gave Liquidators 12 points and Micah's Pride 10 points with Nap Patayan, Melo Dianco and team captain Erwin Palilio marking 696, 665 and 641 respectively. Oca Bernabe and TC Rolly Vistal shielded with 687 and 609. This match was submitted at 3,245-3,194 on scratch for Micah' Pride and 3,700-3,554 on aggregate for Liquidators.
Pin Slasher and Casadores also produced hard-earned win they lost first two games to BCT-JBS Pro Shop and Lane Axis, respectively, but enabled to recover and melt down the lead to become the eventual winners of the battle. BCT-JBS succeeded two-third of the match at 2,514-2,460 for 8 points but Pin Slashers enabled to compose and took the favor on 1,297-1,211 end stint to bring home 14 points on final tallies of 3,757-3,725. Roger Daquioag, Andy Yumena and Jame Galvan scored beyond 600 for Pin Slashers, while Rommel Cagampang, Edward Botardo, Romel Agbayani and Eloisa Fernandez did most of walling for BCT-JBS. Lane Axis got 8 points on the first two sets on scores of 2,651-2,557, but the end-game of 1,309-1,113 made Casadores the overall winner on final settlement of 3,866-3,764. Bing Amolo, Benj Espinosa, Sharmaine Patayan, Tommy Kamal, Marlon Bernabe and Matet Cavite all exceeded 600 marks, while Bonnie Garcia, Ailen Mirabuna, Obie Ycasas, Rey Feliciano and Jayson Castillo did well for Lane Axis.
An easy win was posted by Four Season against Global Intergold at 20-2 (3,654-3,521) but the easiest victory belonged to league leader Sagmit Dental Clinic against under-staffed Marinduqueños (22-0) to continuously dominate the tournament with computed points of 521. Med Ramos top scored Four Season with 677 and Marie Gumpal provided honor by winning the Lady Bowler of the Week with her 652 handicapped series from scratch of 592 on games of 187, 234, and 171. Robert Bago led scoreboard of Global with 640 with a hi-game of 237. Ding dela Rosa top scored Sagmit with 684, while James Paulme did it for Marinduqueños at 629.
