Cool Guys and Lane Axis sparkle
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 19 - 03 - 2016

JEDDAH — From eighth position, Cool Guys succeeded in re-entering the red column on the bright skippering of Jun de Dios who triumphantly mobilized his team for two superlative performances in two consecutive sessions that won it back-to-back Team of the Week honor at the conclusion of the 12th match of the FEDBG-FMBL 17th meet at the Bowling City here.
Thrashing Casadores in the 11th week, Cool Guys did it again this week more convincingly against FB Rhinos that showed lopsided battle with Nezar Alhamwi powering them to the Bowler of the Week honor-winning total of 714. Alhamwi earnestly led Cool Guys with games of 252, 237 and 225 in trenching FB Rhinos on sets of 1,333-1,144, 1,263-1,163 and 1,226-1,040. Such intense show by Alhamwi spirited Randy Mata, Rene Punzalan, Dylan Ilagan, Lourdes Punzalan and de Dios to back him up with 619, 640, 621, 590 and 638 for their 3,822-3,350 (22-0) total control of their rivals. Team captain Oliver Robles and Jun Palacios defended FB Rhinos with 648 and 642.
Lane Axis, the first to be reputed as Team of the Week on the opening day of this season, shared the limelight with the Cool Guys when it enabled to save its match in a thumping fashion against BCT-JBS Pro Shop. Searing lanes in the opener, BCT-JBS put down Lane Axis at 1,344-1,290 with Romel Agbayani, Edward Botardo and TC Emil Payongayong producing 259, 255 and 234 to outpoint Obie Ycasas (238), TC Jay Bengco (235) and Bonnie Garcia (206). But Lane Axis upturned in game two to overwrite game-one defeat with 1,355-1,238 retaliation on all hi-games of Bengco (241), Ycasas (239), Rey Feliciano (258), Cesar Monares (208), Garcia (195) and Aileen Miralbuna (214) to be 46-pin advantage into third game. Payongayong and Agbayani enabled to keep the gap close with their 236 and 229. Lane Axis tried for an endgame kill but BCT-JBS' Jimmy Aragones (229) and Aisah Silabay (209) hastily helmed to topple last game at 1,206-1,166. But this end thrust of BCT gave it only 8 points as Lane Axis successfully shielded its lead to be the overall winner at 3,811-3,788 to sign the match at 14-8 and sustain its inclusion on the red line.
Winning over Ekis-8 at 18-4, Four Season of Rene Ocampo also did well keeping hold of the second place behind league-leader Sagmit Dental Clinic that carded the same against Global Intergold. Leaving opponent by a distance on two-third of the battle (2,569-2,385), Four Season was eyeing for cleansed outing in which Ekis' Rey Betran, Faisal Relativo and Zaldy Bacero vehemently fought with their 233, 221 and 203. With triangular soaring reprisals, Ekis was inching to melt down the lead only to be satisfied with the endgame win when TC Ernie Geslani, Jimmy Mandingiado and Malou Gime could only plank average. Four Season's victory was achieved by Archie Santos (597), George Mnagliman (648), Med Ramos (564), Richard Antonio (647), Marie Gumpal (643) and Ocampo (584), placing their team on top with final tallies of 3,683-3,621.
In other matches Liquidators-3 edged Trojans 12-10 (3,613-3,604), Casadores blanked Marinduquenos, Sagmit Dental Clinic nosed out Global Intergold 18-4 (3,733-3,724) and Pin Slashers outpointed Micah's Pride 18-4 (3,667-3,574). Natty Caringal top scored for Pin Slashers claiming her third and last Bowler of the Week title this season at 669 on lines with 210, 235 and 224.
