Four Season sets records, Afurong and Santoc shine
Published in The Saudi Gazette on 31 - 03 - 2016

JEDDAH — Team captain Rene Ocampo emerged successful with his new fighting six, productively winning the first two sets and though Micah's Pride succeeded in the last game, Four Season scored 18 points on a Team of the week-winning and record-breaking aggregate of 4,016 primarily boarded by Frank Afurong (737) during the 13th session of the FEDBG Friday Morning Bowling League 17th meet at the Bowling City here.
Four Season first broke the records in game one in one of the most classic fights ever in FEDBG history and ended on handicapped set of 1,468-1,291 from scratch of 1,360-1,187. This tremendous opener was topped by George Mangaliman (270), followed by Richard Antonio (257), Afurong (243), Marie Gumpal (201), Ocampo (198) and Med Ramos (191). Oca Bernabe, Paolo Allego and TC Rolly Vistal profusely defended Micah with 224, 216 and 215. With their hands red-hot, Four Season followed it up with another devastating offense of 1,385-1,206 on scratch set of 1,277-1,102 topped by Afurong (258). The rest, except for Ocampo, planked with 200 and up markers opposed by Renato Gonzales and Allego with 213 and 201, respectively. With Four Season eyeing for total slaughter and Micah's Pride avoiding empty basket, both teams geared up for the next game in which the latter defensively succeeded on a slim 1,210-1,208 bleak-match saving 4 points on scratch of 1,106-1,100 with Allego and Antonio entangling with 216 and 203.
Afurong led Four Season's board with his honor-winning total of 737 on scratch of 680 from games of 243, 258 and 179. Antonio produced second best with 719 followed by Mangaliman (699), Gumpal (649), Ramos (642) and Ocampo (617). Allego fought toughest for Micah's Pride with 669 with team manager Ester Santoc, who was named lady Bowler of the Week, superlatively supported with 653. Team captain Vistal, Bernabe, Jack Jarin and Gonzales completed Micah's defense with 627, 600, 548 and 610 respectively. Santoc won the ladies' coveted honor on games of 217, 203 and 233.
BCT-JBS Pro Shop and Liquidators-3 shared limelight by respectively blanking Ekis-8 and Global Intergold. Challenged by its four consecutive weeks of losses that moved it out of the red line, BCT-JBS came in well-composed to marginally test Ekis with 1,374-1,250 on hi-scratch of TC Emil Payongayong 267, Jimmy Aragones 243 and Rommel Cagampang 234. As Ekis geared up for retaliation, BCT-JBS kept its offense for second game probe of 1,229-1,196 with Edward Botardo scratching 229. Knowing the titlist Ekis can explode anytime, BCT-JBS kept its guards up so that though Zaldy Bacero and Rey Beltran joined for 222 and 218, Payongayong and Cagampang were there to counter with 219 and 223 and go home basket-filled with 22-0 points (3,756-3,648). Also contributing for BCT-JBS's victory were Ryan Conde and Aisah Silabay, while the Ernie Geslani-managed Ekis-8 was top-scored by Faisal Relativo at 646.
Liquidators-3 caught Global Intergold on its off-day and went on subjugating every rally attempt of the latter with 600-up markers of Nap Patayan, TC Marcelo Manalo, co-TC Erwin Palilio and Susan Patayan. With support of Fred Cuenca and Hana Reyes, Liquidators-3 outplayed Global Intergold on final submission of 3,742-3,415. Pinky Acato defended Global with her 637.
In other results, Pin Slashers and Lane Axis blanked undermanned Casadores and Marinduquenos while Trojans had it 20-2 against similarly understaffed FB Rhinos. Sagmit Dental Clinic continued to lead the overall league standings by beating Cool Guys at 18-4.
