Yellow House won the overall champion's trophy in the Annual Sports Day for the III-V boys section of the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) here recently. Red House and Green House claimed the first runner-up and second runner-up positions, respectively. Omer Mohammed Liaque (A Category), Ibrahim Kaleem (B Category) and Mohammed Ramees Akram (C Category) emerged individual champions in their respective sections. The inaugural program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur'an followed by their translation. Chief guest Mohammed Raziq Abdul Wahid, chairman of the school management committee, was received by presenting him with a bouquet of flowers. The head prefect, Areeb Maqbool, welcomed the gathering. Chief guest took the salute from the marching contingents holding their respective house flags. The athletes marched with briskness, agility and perfection. And Green House won the March-past Trophy. Ibrahim Firasat, sports secretary, administered the oath of sportsmanship. The chief guest declared the sports meet open and released balloons symbolizing good luck. The sports torch was lit up by Kabeerullah, head of Physical Education Department. It was handed over to Principal Syed Masood Ahmed who passed it over to the chief guest. The sports secretary then took the flame around the school arena along with the captains of the four houses. Competitions were held in three categories — A, B and C. The highlights of the events were 50m, 75m, 100m and 200m sprints, passing the ball, balloon sandwich race, dressing up for school, humpty dumpty race, 4x100m relay etc. The students enjoyed and cheered for their house participants and spurred them to go beyond their best. Even the teachers were not exempted from sports. Gentlemen and ladies staff events were conducted. The winners were honored by the chief guest, members of managing committee and other dignitaries of the school. The day ended in a festive mood where all the winners holding up the trophies and celebrating.
