Champions celebrating their victory JEDDAH — Red House won the overall championship in the Annual Athletic Meet for the Boys Section (9-12 Block) of the International Indian School Jeddah (IISJ) here recently. In all, 617 boys, representing Red, Blue, Yellow and Green Houses, competed for honors in various events. The competitions were conducted in two categories based on age groups as Under-16 and Under-19. Red House bagged the coveted championship trophy by aggregating 251 points. Yellow House claimed the runner-up honors by collecting 217 points. Green House member Nikhil Ramesh of 12-B3 emerged as the individual champion in the Under-19 Category while Yellow House athlete Faizan Riyaz of 10-B9 clinched honors in the Under-16 Category. Mohamad Ragib Quraishi, Head of the Chancery at Indian Consulate Jeddah and School Observer, was the chief guest. Chairman of the IISJ Managing Committee, Dr. Khursheed Akhtar, and other committee members graced the occasion. The meet began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Qur'an. The Head Boy of the school Vazim Latheef welcomed the gathering. The chief guest hoisted the school flag and the house flags were hoisted by the respective house masters. After the march past, Rizwan Abdul Razzak, Sports Secretary, administered the oath of sportsmanship to the participants. The chief guest then lit the sports flame and passed it over to Faris Ayoub, captain of the athletics team. It was carried around the arena by Basim Mohammad Ismail (individual champion in the Under-16 Category in CBSE Cluster Meet last year) and Nikhil Ramesh (individual champion in the Under-19 Category in CBSE Cluster Meet last year). The chief guest declared the meet open. The staff and students' cabinet events — tug of war between staff versus students' cabinet and 200m race for students' cabinet — stole the show on the day. Tug of war was won by the staff under the captaincy of Ghous Mohiuddin, HOD of Physical Education Department, while Vazim Latheef stood first in the captains' only race, followed by Ayman Aslam, captain of Yellow House, and Sachin Suresh, Cultural Secretary. — SG
