RIYADH: Adnan Alam, a student at the International Indian Public School, Riyadh (IIPSR) clinched trophies in the singles and doubles events at the Second Open International Table Tennis Tournament (OITTT) held in Riyadh recently. About 350 boy and girl students from seven international Indian schools participated in the five-day tournament, the biggest such competition held in Riyadh. The tournament was organized at New Middle East International School (NMEIS) in Riyadh. Tabassum Farooqi, NMEIS Principal, inaugurated the tournament, which was open to students between the ages of 12 and 19. About 1,048 matches were played. The schools that participated in the tournament were NMEIS, International Indian School, Riyadh (IISR), Delhi Public School (DPS), International Indian Public School (IIPS), Yara International School (YIS), Al-Aliya International School (AIS), and Manarat International School (MIS). Carrefour Saudi Arabia, as part of its corporate social responsibility, handed over trophies to the winners in different categories. The tournament was aimed at promoting sporting activities, particularly table tennis at schools in Riyadh. Robert Aaron, a student at NMEIS, won the Carrefour Player of the Tournament award and Saher Fatima, also from NMEIS, received the girl's award. The Carrefour Promising Young Star Award was given to Mohammed Amaanur Rahman (NMEIS) in the boy's category and to Safura Khan (NMEIS) in the girl's category. The Carrefour Budding Talent award went to Essam Ahmed (NMEIS) and Manaal Mufti (NMEIS). The members of the OITTT Committee included Zia Ur-Rehman, who represented India at national level, Asiya Murtuza, Supervisor of Grade 6 to 10 (NMEIS), Y.S.
