Japanese stocks fell sharply Monday as market sentiment was hurt by renewed concerns about the eurozone debt crisis and a stronger yen against major currencies, DPA reported. On currency markets at 3 pm (0600 GMT), the dollar traded at 80.61-63 yen, down from Friday's 5 pm quote of 80.92-94 yen. The euro was quoted at 104.99-105.01 yen, down from 106.55-59 yen late Friday, and at 1.3024-3026 dollars, down from 1.3167-3169 dollars.
