Tropical Storm Katia has strengthened in the Atlantic Ocean as it moves west-northwest, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Wednesday. At 09:00 GMT, Katia was located about 1,585 kilometers west of the southern Cape Verde Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph), and it was moving west-northwest at 33 kph. "This general motion is expected to continue with a gradual decrease in forward speed during the next couple of days," the NHC said.
