Tropical Storm Katia has strengthened in the Atlantic Ocean as it moves west-northwest, the Miami-based National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Wednesday. At 0900 GMT, Katia was located about 1,585 kilometers west of the southern Cape Verde Islands, with maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour (kph), and it was moving west-northwest at 33 kph. “This general motion is expected to continue with a gradual decrease in forward speed during the next couple of days,” the NHC said.
