Taiwan on Thursday issued a sea warning for Typhoon Meari, which is moving towards Taiwan from the Pacific Ocean, dpa reported. By 11:23 pm (1523 GMT), the eye of Meari was 720 kilometres south-east of Taiwan's southern tip, the Central Weather Bureau reported. Moving in a north-westerly direction at 25 kilometres per hour (km/h, it packed centre winds of 72 km/h and gusts of 101 km/h. The bureau expected Meari to bring strong winds and heavy rain to north-east and eastern Taiwan over the weekend as Meari charges towards China's east coast.
