Japanese shares fell Friday as investors took to the sidelines due to a lack of cues, as dpa reported. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 13.74 points, or 0.14 per cent, to close at 9,607.08. The broader-based Topix index was down 4.12 points, or 0.5 per cent, at 827.77. For the week, the Nikkei was down 0.43 per cent while the Topix was down 1.45 per cent. Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO), which runs the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, posted 1.25 trillion yen (15.3 billion dollars) in losses for the last financial year ending March, the company said. The plant was crippled by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, and it has leaked radiation ever since. On currency markets at 3 pm (0600 GMT), the dollar traded at 81.75-76 yen, down slightly from Thursday's 5 pm quote of 81.80-82 yen. The euro traded at 1.4327-4329 dollars, up from 1.4234-4236 dollars Thursday, and at 117.12-19 yen, up from 116.44-48 yen.
