The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, has strongly condemned the attack in Mogadishu yesterday 22nd February 2009, on a military base of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) which resulted in the tragic loss of eleven Burundian soldiers and the wounding of fifteen others. Prof Ihsanoglu who deeply deplored the loss of precious lives of peacekeepers engaged in a noble task of restoring peace and stability to Somalia, described the assault as a heinous crime whose perpetrators must be identified and brought to justice. The Secretary General, while conveying his profound sympathy to the families of the deceased and to the African Union , prayed for the quick recovery of the injured. He further appealed to OIC Member States to contribute troops in order to beef up AMISOM operations in Somalia.
