The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has expressed concern over the recent developments in Somalia. In a statement issued today, he deplored escalation of fighting in the Capital Mogadishu and shelling of residential areas. He urged the combatant parties notably the foreign troops to practice self-restraint and to avoid killing innocent people. He also called on the international community to work for the salvation of Somalia and urged the African countries which have pledged to participate in the mission of the African Union in Somalia to work for bringing about peace and stability in the African Horn country.
