The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has deplored the use of force on 28th September 2009, by the security forces in Guinea to disperse a rally in Conakry organized by the coalition of civil society groups which resulted in the tragic loss of dozens of lives. Prof Ihsanoglu who called for calm and restraint in order to prevent a further escalation of the situation, appealed to the all Guineans to return to the path of dialogue. He urged the CNDD Government and the stakeholders to resume serious negotiations with a view to preserving stability the country and guaranteeing a peaceful political transition leading to a free, fair and credible election. The Secretary General, while requesting the authorities to conduct an urgent and thorough investigation into the unfortunate incident, presented his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed to God for the quick recovery of the injured.
