Kamchatsky, January 25, SPA -- A powerful cyclone that hit the southern part of the Kamchtka peninsula, the Far East of Russia, early on Sunday has disrupted air links with the mainland, Itar-Tass reported. The airport in the regional administrative centre of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky will be closed until 11:00 Moscow time (20:00 local time). The arrivals and departures of planes are prevented by strong winds and snow storms, the airport's dispatch service said. The cyclone has approached the Kamchatka coast from the Pacific Ocean. Storm and avalanche warnings have been issued. Winds are reaching 32 meters per second in southern Kamchatka, 30 meters per second on the Western coast and 19 meters per second in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The fleet is staying in port because of rough sea and high waves.
