Kamchatsky, January 25, 2010, SPA -- A powerful cyclone is approaching Russia's Kamchatka peninsula from the Sea of Okhotsk. A storm warning has been issued for ships and all concerned services, sources from the Kamchatka meteorological service told Itar-Tass. The cyclone will begin influencing southern parts of the region on Tuesday. Heavy snowfalls and snowdrifts are expected in the Yelizovo, Ust-Bolsheretsk and Milkovo districts as well as in the regional centre of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Wind will intensify to up to 27 meters per second on the south-western coast. In the regional centre its gusts will reach 20 meters per second, meteorologists warn. The cyclone will be slowly moving north. The weather in southern Kamchatka is expected to improve on January 28. However, at the same time it will worsen in the north of the peninsula, specialists believe.
