UN-Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA ) released here today its 2nd report on Social Policy (from the understood to the practice) with the presence of a large number of diplomatic, political, economic, social, cultural and information dignitaries. In his opening address on the occasion, the Executive Secretary of ESCWA, Omar Badr Al Dafaa, said that the approach undertaken by ESCWA in social policy extended beyond the traditional concept which is limited to the provision of basic social services such as health and education to a broader concept including the formulation of public policy and planning the program on solid foundations, including social equity, equality of opportunity and gender, and human rights. He noted that ESCWA is working to clarify the role of integrated social policy in the member countries through the provision of technical cooperation and support for concerned ministries and authorities .
