Yemen is to host the meetings of 25 round of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) to be commenced next Monday, Saba reported. The 25th round held under the auspices of President Ali Abdullah Saleh will be participated by the ESCWA Executive Secretary Badr Omar and representatives for the UN members-states. The four-day meetings that will be the first event for the ESCWA in Sana'a will be held in two stages; the first will focus on the technical level with a high representation form the delegations and the second stage will be on the ministerial level. The opening session will witness, as scheduled, some speeches to be delivered by the representatives of Saudi Arabia as it chaired the ESCWA 24th round, Yemen as the chairman of the current round, UN Secretary General and the ESCWA Executive Secretary. The round activities at the ministerial level will focus on approving the convention of international multimodal transport of goods in the Arab Mashreq. Several dialogues ministerial sessions will be convened on "Finance development in ESCWA region", enhancing the regional cooperation to realize millennium development goals and the economic and social development in Yemen. According to the round's agenda at the technical level, the participants will discuss enhancing the ESCWA role in dealing with consequences of the conflicts and instability within the economic and social development, improving the information society in western Asia and establishing the ESCWA center of technology and technical cooperation. Moreover, they will also consider the Sudan's request to join ESCWA in addition to discuss the ESCWA executive secretary's report on the organization's activities in 2006, 2007 and follow up the ESCWA's resolutions in the 24 round.
