An earthquake measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale jolted Bandar-e Kong in Hormuzgan province, southern Iran, early Sunday morning, IRNA reported. It was the fourth tremor that hit the port city in the past 24 hours. Bandar-e Kong is an old port city with a population of 5,000, located 160 km west of the provincial capital of Bandar-e Abbas. Two other earthquakes, measuring 5 and 4 respectively, jolted Bandar-e Kong within eight minutes before midnight on Saturday while earlier in the day, it was also hit by another 4.3-magnitude tremor. The last tremor (measured 3.7) was registered by the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University at 00:39 hours local time (2109 GMT Saturday night). The quake was epicentered in an area located 55.00 degrees in longitude and 26.80 degrees in latitude. There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake. Iran is often shaken by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
