An earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted suburbs of Safiabad city in northeastern Iranian province of North Khorassan on Thursday, IRNA reported. Local seismological centers affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the tremor at 10:09 hours local time (0639 GMT). The tremor was epicentered in an area located in 57.97 degrees in latitude and 36.86 degrees in longitude. There is no report of any casualty or damage to property caused by the quake. Iran is often shaken by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines.
