Officials of ministries of electricity and power from seven countries who had earlier proposed a cross-border electricity linkup, meet in the Jordanian capital Amman on Saturday to discuss an eighth partner, the Palestinian territories. Managing Director of Jordan's National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) Ahmed Hiyasat told KUNA that the proposal's technical committee began its preparatory meeting ahead of the scheduled ministerial one to be held on Monday. Hiyasat indicated that the meeting hosted by NEPCO aims at looking into the issue of adding the Palestinians to the proposed union. The meeting he said also aims at discussing the proposal and following up its latest developments. The electricity union so far consists of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Turkey and observer member Palestine. The ministerial meeting for the electricity-providing-union is to be the 13th in the chain of meetings.
