An earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale jolted today northeast of Behabad, in the central province of Yazd, reported the Iranian news agency "IRNA." According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake was registered at 06:07 hours local time (0237 GMT). The quake was epicentered in an area measuring 56.25 degrees in longitude and 32.65 degrees in latitude, the report added. Governor of Behabad district Abbas Eqbal Saturday told IRNA in Yazd, the quake caused no casualty or damage to property. He said 1,000 earthquakes have hit Behabad in the past five years and five in the past month. Behabad has a population of 17,000 and is located 180 kms southeast of the provincial capital city of Yazd. Iran is often hit by quakes of varying magnitudes as it sits on some of the world's most active seismic fault lines. -- SPA
