An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted Krui area in Lampung province on Sunday afternoon, Antara reported. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 1.26 p.m. was in the sea 283 km southwest of Krui in a depth of 30 km, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said on Sunday. The tremblor did not have the potential of causing a tsunami, it said. According to the agency, Sunday's quake was the second biggest ever to hit the area. Earlier in the day, a 5.7 magnitude undersea earthquake also hit Pekalongan city, Central Java, at 2.57 a.m. The epicenter of the pre dawn quake was located 133 km northeast of Pekalongan in a depth of 556 km. No casualty nor material damage was reported in the tremblor. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity. A 5.0 magnitude earthquake jolted Kupang, capital of East Nusa Nusatenggara province, at the weekend. The agency said the epicenter of the quake which struck at 11.34 p.m. on Saturday was located 114 km northeast of Kupang in a depth of 33 km.
