An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale hit Timika, Papua Province, on Friday, at 5.56 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB), ANTARA reported. The earthquake's epicenter was located at 4.47 degrees eastern latitude and 137.69 degrees eastern longitude, around 88 km northeast of Timika, at a depth of 10 km below sea level, according to information of the meteorology and geophysics office. Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone, so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that causes frequent volcanic movements.
