An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted North Sulawesi on Thursday at 12.46 a.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB), ANTARA reported. The temblor's epicenter was located at 4.92 degrees northern latitude and 126.17 degrees eastern longitude, about 116 km northwest of Melangone, North Sulawesi, and at a depth of 74 km below the sea level, according to information from the meteorological, climatology, and geophysics office. Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
