An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale shook Manokwari, West Papua, on Tuesday, at 2.07 am Western Indonesian Time (WIB), but did not trigger a tsunami, ANTARA reported. The earthquake's epicenter was located at 0.22 degrees southern latitude and 133.02 degrees eastern longitude, at a depth of 30 km below sea level, around 136 km northwest of Manokwari, according to information from the national meteorological and geophysics office here on Tuesday. Indonesia was the nation worst hit by the earthquake-triggered Asian tsunami in December 2004, which killed 168,000 people in the country's Aceh province. The Indonesian archipelago sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where continental plates meet causing seismic and volcanic activity.
