At least 25 people died in a double traffic accident on a Brazilian road, according to DPA. According to media reports on Wednesday which cited police sources, the accident happened late Tuesday near the town of Descanso, in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. In the initial crash, three trucks and one bus collided. Then another truck drove into the crowd of injured, rescue teams, police officers, reporters and onlookers. A total of 87 people were injured, some of them with serious wounds. The first accident sent three vehicles - including the bus with some 40 passengers - down a deep precipice. Barely two hours later the second collision happened, killing among others one police officer and two reporters. "The truck drove into the wrong lane at an excessive speed. The driver barely hit the brakes and drove into the crowd," a police spokesman said. The driver of the lorry survived, although he was injured and is being treated in hospital under police custody.
