Thirty people were killed and 21 injured Tuesday when a bus rammed and a truck collided in a southwestern Ugandan village near the border with Rwanda, police confirmed. The front tyres of the Kenyan-registered bus - on its way from Rwanda - burst, killing 26 instantly. Four more people died in a nearby government hospital, police spokesman Asuman Mugenyi said. "The bus saw its front left tyre burst, lost control and rammed into an oncoming lorry that was carrying cooking oil and baking flour to Rwanda," Mugenyi said. "Twenty-six 26 people including the lorry driver and a policemen who had boarded the lorry died on the spot, 21 were badly injured and were rushed to hospital." Most of the victims were Rwandans on their way to Kampala and Nairobi, dpa reported. The Rwandan government soon after airlifted seven of the injured for treatment in Kigali, Mugenyi said. --SP 2324 Local Time 2024 GMT
