President General Pervez Musharraf has conferred the award of Nishan-I-Imtiaz (Military) on General Yasar Buyukanit, Commander Turkish Land Forces at a special investiture ceremony, said an official statement. It added that General Buyukanit has personally taken many initiatives to enhance the close understanding between the Armed Forces of Pakistan and Turkey and in recognition of his consistent and valuable contributions in promoting relations and understanding between the two countries and the Armies, Musharraf conferred the award. Federal Ministers, the Services Chiefs, Vice Chief of Army Staff, senior civil and military officers attended the ceremony. General Buyukanit also called on Musharraf. The President recalled the extremely close and fraternal relations between Turkey and Pakistan and lauded the services of the Turkish Land Forces Commander in giving a meaningful and purposeful orientation to these ties. General Buyukanit thanked the Government of Pakistan for conferring a prestigious military award on him and expressed his resolve for further strengthening the excellent relations between the Armed Forces of Turkey and Pakistan.
