Pakistan's President General Pervez Musharraf has conferred military award "Nishan-i-Imtiaz" on Commander of Turkish Land Forces General Ilker Basbug, says an official statement. The award has been conferred in recognition of Basbug's efforts in bringing about excellent relationship that exist between the armies of Pakistan and Turkey, its two people and their respective governments. Basbug has taken many initiatives to enhance close understanding between the two armies and has played key role in furthering the interests of the two nations, the statement said. The investiture ceremony was attended by senior officials from Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy of both countries. Earlier, the Commander of the Turkish Land Forces called on Musharraf. The President said Pakistan and Turkey enjoy brotherly relations and have a long history of mutual support for each other's principled causes. He appreciated the contribution made by General Basbug in promoting understanding between the armies of the two countries.
