A powerful earthquake in South Asia killed at least 16 people in India's Jammu-Kashmir state Saturday, a top Indian official said. Air force and army soldiers were helping civilian authorities in Jammu-Kashmir to rescue people trapped under buildings that collapsed from the impact of the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that jolted India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. "The reports we have received indicate that 16 people have died in Jammu-Kashmir, of which 4 deaths were in Srinagar," V.K. Duggal, home secretary was quoted as saying by The Associated Press in New Delhi.
