Suspected rebels attacked a military convoy in India's portion of Kashmir on Saturday, killing three soldiers and wounding five others, hours after six villagers were killed in a separate attack elsewhere in the region, officials said. The gun and grenade attack on the highway linking Srinagar and Jammu _ the two main cities of Jammu-Kashmir state _ came as the military convoy passed through Awantipora town, army spokesman Lt. Col. V.K. Batra said. Three soldiers were killed and five others were wounded, he said. The attack in Awantipora, 140 kilometers (90 miles) north of Jammu, came hours after suspected rebels attacked a mountain village, killing six people and wounding eight others, The Associated Press reported.
