Directors General of news agencies of the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council held their 12th session at the headquarters of the GCC in Riyadh today under the chairmanship of the Director of Bahrain's news agency Abdullah Suleiman. Saudi Press Agency (SPA) was represented in the meeting by its acting Director General Abdulaziz bin Saad Alghamdi. The media senior officials discussed a number of issues aiming at enhancing cooperation among the GCC member states and ways of developing it in technical and news fields. They also discussed a report submitted by the General Secretariat on the follow-up of the recommendations of the 11th meeting which was held in Kuwait on 12 May 2004, the memo of the Secretariat General on the views of the consultative commission regarding the media issues, particularly as regards the joint media action in the field of news agencies and the proposals submitted by UAE, Saudi and Kuwaiti news agencies to reactivate and promote joint cooperation among GCC news agencies. The meeting also tackled the coordination and cooperation strategy among the GCC news agencies to highlight the issues of the region on one hand and to deal with the regional and international incidents on the other. They also reviewed the training needs and exchange of expertise among media distinguished cadres.
