The Secretary General of the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsan Oglu has underscored the importance of establishing an effective mechanism which enables the Muslim countries to extend relief assistance to victims of various disasters. In his speech, read on his behalf by OIC's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs Izzat Mufti at a meeting of the follow-up ministerial committee here today, Ekmeleddin highlighted the crucial role of the mass media on shedding light on disasters and tragedies. Ekmeleddin slammed the blast incidents which recently took place in Sharam-al-sheikh killing tens of innocent people, and reiterated the support of the OIC to Egypt in all measures that it might take for ensuring its security and stability. He urged the Arab and Muslim media to project the tragedy of the Palestinian people before the international public opinion. The follow up ministerial committee, formed by the sixth conference of the Islamic information ministers, held today its meeting under the chairmanship of Egyptian Information Minister Anas Al-Faki with the participation of 11 ministers and representatives from other Arab and Islamic countries.
