SECRETARY GENERAL OF JEDDAH-BASED ORGANIZATION OF THE ISLAMIC CONFERENCE (OIC) PROFESSOR EKMELEDDIN IHSAN OGLU SAID THE SITUATION IN SOMALIA CONSTITUTES A SOURCE OF ANXIETY TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AND TO THE MUSLIM NATION IN PARTICULAR. IN HIS SPEECH AT A MEETING FOR THE SENIOR OFFICIALS OF THE LIAISON TEAM CONCERNED WITH SOMALIA, AN AFFILIATE OF THE OIC, READ ON HIS BEHALF BY ATTAL-MANNAN BAKHEET, THE OIC'S SECRETARY GENERAL FOR THE INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, OGLU SAID THE OIC AND THE ARAB LEAGUE HAVE AGREED TO EXERT A JOINT EFFORT FOR REALIZATION OF PEACE AND SECURITY IN SOMALIA. HE UNDERSCORED THE IMPORTANCE OF NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WHICH RESTORES STABILITY IN THE COUNTRY. HE HOPED THAT THE OIC'S MEMBER STATES WOULD EXTEND THE REQUIRED POLITICAL AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MAKING THIS INITIATIVE SUCCESSFUL.
