Despite its highly advertised military withdrawal from Lebanon, the Syrian government has yet to meet all the U.N. Security Council demands to end its political interference in Lebanon, U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan said Tuesday. "As of April 26, 2005, the requirements of Resolution 1559 have not yet been met," Annan told the 15-nation council in New York. The council adopted the resolution in September, demanding that Syria end its intervention in Lebanese internal affairs and that Damascus and Beirut take steps to normalize their relationship. Annan said Syria has withdrawn its military and intelligence from Lebanon but there remained more to do. "There has been no progress in the implementation of other provisions of the resolution," he said. --SP 1824 Local Time 1524 GMT
