Annan expects full Syrian withdrawal from Lebanon

U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan expects Syria to completely withdraw from Lebanon before elections in May for a new Beirut government, a spokesman said Thursday.
Fred Eckhard said Annan voiced the expectation after meeting with his special envoy for Lebanon, Terje Roed-Larsen, who has been holding talks with both Beirut and Damascus on the Syrian withdrawal.
Lebanese elections are scheduled for May.
Syria has been urged to pull its 14,000 troops out of Lebanon and has already completed part of it. ---SP 2344 Local Time 2044 GMT
